Section 296-874-20070 - Make sure toeboards meet these requirements You must make sure toeboards, when used, are:
(1) At least three and one-half inches (9 cm) high from the top edge of the toeboard to the platform;(2) Securely fastened along the outer edge of the platform;(3) Installed for enough distance along the platform to protect employees below;(4) Installed so the gap between the bottom of the toeboard and the platform is one-quarter inch (0.7 cm) or less;(5) Solid or with openings that are one inch (2.5 cm) or less in the largest dimension;(6) Able to withstand, without failing, a force of at least fifty pounds (222 n) applied in a downward or horizontal direction anywhere along the toeboard. EXEMPTION: | On float (ship) scaffolds, an edging of three-quarters by one and one-half inch (2 x 4 cm) wood or the equivalent may be used instead of a toeboard. |
