§ 251. Eligibility for federal benefits

For the purpose of enabling the Department of Agriculture of Puerto Rico to qualify as “local organization”, as said term is defined in the law for the protection of hydrographical basins and flood control (68 Stat. 666), as amended, and thus make it eligible to obtain from the federal government the benefits available to states and local agencies in the developing and carrying out of projects for the improvement of hydrographical basins under said federal law, the Secretary of Agriculture of Puerto Rico is hereby authorized to plan and carry out, in cooperation with the United States Secretary of Agriculture, works and measures for flood control or for the conservation, development, utilization and disposal of waters, including those which are for the benefit of fishing, wildlife, and recreation works, for which the providing of federal financial and other aid to local organizations is authorized under the provisions of said federal law.
