Section 68-1-149 - Annual report of firearm injuries and deaths caused by firearms - Report requirements
(a) As used in this section, "firearm injury" means serious bodily injury or death inflicted upon an individual as a result of the discharge of a firearm by the individual or by another person.
(b) By August 1, 2025, and by each August 1 thereafter, the department of health shall submit an annual report to the governor stating the total number of firearm injuries and deaths caused by firearms in this state per one hundred thousand (100,000) people that have occurred in the previous calendar year. The report must include, at a minimum, the following information, if available:
(1) The county in which each injury or death occurred;
(2) Demographic information about each individual who suffered a firearm injury or death; and
(3) The cause of each injury or death as indicated in the death certificate, police report, or other official document.
(c) The attorney general and reporter shall assist the department of health, upon request, in collecting information necessary for the report described in subsection (b).
(d) The department of health shall ensure that the information reported pursuant to this section is produced in accordance with applicable state and federal law to maintain the confidentiality of individually identifiable health information.
