Section 7509 - Deputy sheriffs; qualifications

It shall be unlawful for the sheriff of any county of this Commonwealth to appoint as deputy sheriff any person who shall not have been a citizen and resident of the county for which he is appointed for at least one year immediately preceding such appointment, or to appoint as deputy sheriff any person who, within ten years immediately preceding such appointment, shall have been convicted of any crime punishable under the laws of this Commonwealth by imprisonment exceeding one year.
