§ 1785. Public officers demanding or receiving excessive fees

Any officer authorized by law to demand or receive fees of office, or any person employed by such officer, who wilfully demands or receives higher fees than are allowed by law, shall be punished by a fine of not less than twenty-five dollars ($25) nor more than five hundred dollars ($500) for such offense.
