§ 242. Labeling required

Each hen’s egg in its shell marketed in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico shall be directly marked on its shell with simple and clearly legible letters of a type not less than [fourteen] (14) point, with the words “Del País” or with the commercial name in use by the producer, if produced in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico; with the letters “U.S.” if produced in the United States of America, including its territories and possessions under its sovereignty; and with the word “Imported” if produced in a foreign country.

The provisions of this chapter shall not be applicable to eggs produced in Puerto Rico and packed in one-dozen containers, or eggs produced in Puerto Rico and supplied in containers of any type, capacity or size to private institutions such as hotels, restaurants and hospitals, and to government, commonwealth, municipal or federal institutions; nor to eggs produced at home, when directly sold to the consumer. The expression “produced at home” shall mean not produced on farms.
