§ 274p. Definitions

For all intents and purposes, the following words and phrases shall have the meaning set forth below:

(a) Teacher.— Means all teaching personnel and includes any teacher in charge of teaching as well as any officials assigned to technical, supervisory or school administration duties.

(b) Employee.— Means all personnel holding a job or employment not directly related to teaching, whether regular or not regular, transitory or rendering services under a contract which may be equivalent to holding a position.

(c) Board.— Means the Public Education System Board of Appeals.

(d) Merit principle.— Refers to the concept that all employees of the education system should be selected, trained, promoted, retained and treated in all that concerns their job, based on their capabilities, without discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, birth, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, origin or social condition, or political or religious beliefs.

(e) Attorney.— Means a person with a degree in law (Juris Doctor) admitted to the practice of the profession in Puerto Rico.
