Whoever causes or attempts to cause his name to be registered, knowing that he is not a qualified voter in the place of such registration or attempted registration; whoever registers or attempts to register under a name other than his own; whoever represents or attempts to represent himself as some other person to an election commissioner, registrar or assistant registrar; whoever gives a false answer to an election commissioner, registrar, or assistant registrar respecting any matter relating to his registration or his right to vote; whoever otherwise illegally registers or attempts to register; whoever knowingly provides false information in connection with automatic voter registration under section 65 of chapter 51; or whoever aids or abets any other person in doing any of the acts above mentioned, shall be punished by a fine of not more than ten thousand dollars or by imprisonment for not more than five years, or both.
