Section 16-NEW - [Newly enacted section not yet numbered] John Wesley Foster Act; Definitions(a) This act shall be known and may be cited as the John Wesley Foster Act.(b) For the purposes of this act, the following terms have the following meanings: (1) ATHLETIC ACTIVITY. The same meaning as Section 16-30D-2, Code of Alabama 1975.(2) AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR or AED. A lightweight, portable device that delivers an electric shock through the chest to the heart which can potentially stop an irregular heartbeat and allow a normal rhythm to resume following sudden cardiac arrest.(3) CARDIAC EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLAN. A written document that establishes the specific steps to reduce death from cardiac arrest in a particular setting.(4) HIGH-NEEDS SCHOOL. A school that meets at least one of the following criteria: a. A school where at least 50 percent of the students are eligible to receive free and reduced priced meals.b. A school that provides meals to all students through the Community Eligibility Provision.(5) SCHOOL. A public or nonpublic preK-12 school.(6) SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST. A heart malfunction in which the heart stops beating unexpectedly and, if left untreated, may quickly result in death.Ala. Code § 16-NEW (1975)
