The prosecution and defense of all cases shall be prepared and ready for trial within six months from the date of arrest. If the State is not ready for trial within that period, it shall present good cause for an extension of time for trial upon proper application and notice to the defendant. Otherwise, on motion of the defendant or the court, of its own motion, after hearing, may order the complaint dismissed.
