Section 126-31-2 - Conditions

Instruction in applied music with private teachers may receive credit under the following conditions:

2.1. In order that students may receive credit for applied music in any standard high school the school must employ a qualified teacher of music.
2.2. Notice of the intention to apply for credit shall be filed with the high school principal not later than the end of the second week of the school year. (use attached application form)
2.3. Candidates for credit must be regularly registered as high school students. (Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12.)
2.4. Before being admitted for credit, the student must have completed at least one year's study in the branch of applied music in which he desires credit.
2.5. The student must take at least one (1) one-half (1/2) hour lesson a week and must practice six (6) full hours weekly. (One (1) hour daily practice recommended.) Note: Make-up lessons mandatory for all that are missed.
2.6. The student must have successfully passed a qualifying test under the direction of the school music supervisor not later than the end of the first semester and a final examination for credit for the year's work not later than two (2) weeks before the end of the school year. The examining board is to be comprised of the county supervisor of music, or the head of the department of any approved state or denominational college within the area, and a third member who must be qualified to pass on the particular phase of work for which credit is asked, to be appointed by the County Superintendent of Schools. No teacher may serve as an examiner of his own students. Schedules and arrangements for final examinations are to be made by local county school authorities.
2.7. Students must be enrolled and earn at least one-half (1/2) unit in general music (theory, harmony, history) as a condition for the granting of credit in each year's work in applied music.
