Section R432-16-13 - Details and Finishes
(1) The licensee shall ensure that details and finishes comply with the plans review of Rule R432-4 and the following:
(a) corridor handrails are provided; and
(b) cubicle curtains and draperies are affixed to permanently mounted tracks or rods. Portable curtains or visual barriers are not permitted.
(2) The licensee shall ensure that there are signs provided as follows:
(a) general and circulation direction signs in corridors;
(b) identification at each door;
(c) emergency directional signs; and
(d) signs located in corridors comply with the plans review of Rule R432-4.
(3) The licensee shall ensure that partition and floor and ceiling construction in each patient area complies with the noise reduction criteria of Table 1 for sound control, this includes;
(a) floor materials that are easily cleanable;
(b) a floor in an area used for food preparation or food assembly, including the tile joints, is water-resistant and resistant to food acids;
(c) an area subject to frequent wet-cleaning, contains floor materials that are sealed to prevent contamination by germicidal cleaning solutions; and
(d) the floor and wall base of a kitchen, toilet room, bathroom, and housekeeping room shall be homogeneous or the joints shall be tightly sealed. The base shall be integrated with the floor and coved.
(4) The licensee shall ensure that wall finishes are washable, smooth, moisture-resistant and in the immediate vicinity of plumbing fixtures.
(5) The licensee shall ensure the following regarding details and finishes:
(a) finish, trim, floor, and wall construction in food preparation areas are free of insect and rodent harboring spaces;
(b) floor and wall openings for pipes, ducts, conduits, and joints of structural elements are tightly sealed to prevent entry of pests;
(c) carpet and padding shall be stretched taut and be free of loose edges;
(d) finishes of each exposed ceiling is cleanable;
(e) finished ceilings are not required in a mechanical and equipment space, shop, general storage area, and similar spaces, unless required for fire resistive purposes; and
(f) finished ceilings are provided in areas where dust fallout may occur.

(a) Sound transmissions (STC) shall be determined by tests in accordance with Standard E90 and ASTM Standard E413. Where partitions do not extend to the structure above, the designer shall consider sound transmissions through ceilings and composite STC performance.

(b) Public space includes lobbies, dining rooms, recreation rooms, treatment rooms, and similar space.

(c) Service areas include kitchens, elevators, elevator machine rooms, laundry rooms, garages, maintenance rooms, boilers, mechanical equipment rooms, and similar spaces of high noise. Mechanical equipment located on the same floor or above patient rooms, offices, nurses' stations, and similarly occupied space shall be effectively isolated from the floor.
