A staff call system shall be provided for resident use to summon assistance from staff. The system shall be capable of being easily activated by the resident and shall register both visually and audibly at the staff station, work area, or device carried by care staff. The system shall be utilized and maintained in such a manner as to ensure that it is a consistent and effective means for a resident to alert staff of the need for assistance. The call stations convenient for resident use shall be provided at each bed, resident toilet, bathing or shower facility used by the resident. Staff call systems which provide two-way voice communication shall be equipped with an indicating light at each calling station which lights and remains lighted as long as the voice circuit is operating. The call system shall also meet at least one of the following requirements:
A call station or device is not required in the resident room of a cognitively impaired resident if a nursing assessment determines the resident would not benefit from the availability. There shall be a method for staff to summon assistance if needed.
