Section 11.171 - Protective devices and prohibited practices(a) The use of restraints, seclusion and aversive conditioning is prohibited.(b) Protective devices, such as helmets, mitts and muffs, may be used to prevent self-injury on an interim basis not to exceed 3 months after a client is admitted to a center. When they are used, the following apply:(1) The device shall be checked for proper fit by a staff person at least every 15 minutes.(2) The client's physical needs shall be met promptly.(3) The device shall be removed completely for at least 10 minutes during every 2 hour period it is used.(4) The client shall receive training aimed at eliminating or reducing the need for the device.(5) The center shall document compliance with paragraphs (1)-(4).
