Section 333-122-0130 - General Requirements for all RGD: Operating Requirements(1) Procedures. Normal operating procedures shall be written and available to all X-ray operators. No individual shall be permitted to operate X-ray equipment in any manner other than that specified in the procedures unless the individual has obtained written approval from the radiation safety officer. (a) No individual shall hold in their hands, or have on their bodies, the object analyzed by an X-ray machine during the radiation exposure process.(b) Each individual shall maintain the proper forward positioning of a hand-held X-ray unit during the radiation exposure process.(c) A hand-held X-ray machine may be utilized in an appropriate container, testing tower, or protective device as described in the manufacturer's specifications.(2) Bypassing. No individual shall bypass a safety device or interlock unless the individual has obtained approval from the radiation safety officer. (a) The approval to bypass shall be for a specified period of time. (b) When a safety device or interlock has been bypassed, a readily discernible sign bearing the words, SAFETY DEVICE NOT WORKING, or words having a similar intent, shall be placed on the radiation source housing. (3) Repair or Modification of X-ray Tube Systems. Except as specified in OAR 333-108-0115(2), no operation involving removal of covers, shielding materials or tube housings, modifications to shutters, collimators or beam stops shall be performed without ascertaining that the tube is off and will remain off until safe conditions have been restored.
