Section 230-070-0080 - Gloves

(1) Boxing style gloves for Boxing, Kickboxing and Muay Thai

(a) Must be supplied by the promoter and approved by the Commission;

(b) Both competitors must have the option to both use the same brand and quality of glove, and any variations must be approved by both competitors and an authorized representative of the superintendent;

(c) May only be used in only one bout per event;

(d) Main event gloves must be new and provided by the promoter;

(e) Must have the distal portion of the thumb attached to the body of the glove;

(f) No breaking, skinning, roughing or twisting is permitted;

(g) Must only be placed on the competitor in the presence of an Inspector;

(h) If found to be unfit, shall be immediately discarded and replaced with gloves meeting the above requirements;

(i) Promoters are required to have new replacement gloves available at ringside.

(j) Boxing:

(A) Must weigh a minimum of eight (8) ounces for competitors weighing 147 pounds or less;

(B) Must weigh a minimum of ten (10) ounces for all competitors weighing over 147 pounds.

(k) Muay Thai/Kickboxing:

(A) Must weigh a minimum of eight (8) ounces for competitors weighing less than 160 lbs.;

(B) Must weigh a minimum of ten (10) ounces for competitors weighing 160 lbs. and over;

(C) For competitors weighing less than 126 lbs, six (6) ounce gloves may be approved for use.

(2) MMA gloves:

(a) Must weigh a minimum of four (4) ounces and no more than eight (8) ounces;

(b) Main event gloves must be new and provided by the promoter;

(c) Must not be squeezed, kneaded or crushed to change the original shape;

(d) May only be used in one bout per event;

(e) Must only be placed on the competitor in the presence of an Inspector;

(f) Promoters are required to have new replacement gloves available at the fenced area.

(g) Gloves for competitors weighing 125 lbs. or less and designated as "small" or "extra small" may weigh between 3.80 ounces to 8 ounces. The manufacturing tag should be displayed and read 4.0 ounces.
