Section 38-08-02-02 - Course curriculum

The curriculum must include, but not be limited to, the following subject matter:

1. The concept of crash preventability, including a discussion of the cost magnitude of traffic crashes.
2. Discussion concerning the following contributing factors involved in motor vehicle crashes:
a. Appropriate responses to roadway departure incidents;
b. Benefits associated with the proper use of safety restraints;
c. Impact of alcohol and drug use among drivers;
d. Problems associated with younger or older drivers; and
e. Negative consequences associated with aggressive driving.
3. Traffic laws and regulations, vehicle capabilities, and highway environmental factors, including:
a. Traffic laws and regulations:
(1) Signs, signals, and markings.
(2) Right-of-way requirements.
(3) Speed.
b. Vehicle capabilities:
(1) Stopping distance.
(2) Passing.
c. Highway environmental factors:
(1) Conditions limited by illumination, obstructions, and weather.
(2) Conditions created by snow, ice, and rain.
