Section 240.2 - Procedures
(a) The board of education, board of trustees, sole trustee or other governing body of each school district shall adopt a simplified legal district name consisting substantially of:
(1) geographic designation (such as the name of a town, village or hamlet in which the district is located)
(2) type of district (central, union free, common, or central high, as appropriate)
(3) designation--the words "school district".
(b) Each school district shall thereupon submit to the commissioner for approval a certified copy of the resolution by the board of education, board of trustees, sole trustee or other governing body of the school district adopting a name in accordance with the provisions of this Part. Proposed names which are identical with, or so similar to, a name previously approved for use by another school district as to cause confusion will not be approved.
(c) The commissioner will issue a certificate setting forth the approved simplified legal district name, the former legal name, the post office address and street address of the school district office or of the main school building, the names of the towns and counties in which the school district is located, and, where a part of the school district is located in a city, the name of such city, and the effective date of the simplified legal district name, which will be not less than 30 days after the date of such certificate.
