Section 474.2 - Location of permit and sticker

Tax Law, § 502

(a) The statute requires that the permit be carried at all times in the motor vehicle for which it was issued. In the case of a drawn motor vehicle transporting automotive fuel, the permit must accompany such vehicle. The permit must be produced for inspection upon the demand of any authorized person.
(b) The sticker must be securely and conspicuously affixed to the motor vehicle for which it was issued as follows:
(1) on a truck, tractor, omnibus or other self-propelled vehicle: on the body of the motor vehicle as near as practical to the front registration plate;
(2) on a trailer or other nonself-propelled vehicle that is used to transport automotive fuel: on the body of such motor vehicle as near as practical to the rear registration plate.
(c) In the event that the structure of a motor vehicle is such that it is impossible or impractical to affix the sticker as set forth in this section, with written authorization from the Department of Taxation and Finance the sticker may be affixed to the left side (driver's side) thereof. Such written authorization must accompany the motor vehicle for which it is applicable. All stickers issued must always be legible and be completely visible.
