Section 459.2 - Definitions
(a) Senior citizen. A senior citizen is a person 60 years of age or over residing in the community. For the purposes of this Part, the term senior citizen also shall include the spouse of a person 60 years of age or over residing in the community, regardless of the spouse's age.
(b) Senior citizen center. A senior citizen center is a designated community facility or a distinct part thereof through which older persons enjoy benefits resulting from participation and involvement in a developmental program of social group services, individual services and community programs provided under the direction of qualified, competent leadership.
(c) Social group services for senior citizens. Those services provided to older adults, through specialized community facilities which serve as focal points for their concerns, needs and interests for such multiple purposes as combating isolation, preventing or delaying physical and mental deterioration, diminishing the effects of loss of role and status, providing centralized accessibility to services and enabling the aged to remain in their homes or community for as long as possible. Services available in these centers may include any or all of the following: information and referral, nutrition (congregate meals), counseling, employment counseling, recreation and educational programs, transportation to and from user's home and facilities, health maintenance services, community service volunteer opportunities, leadership development, facilitation of participants' use of other agencies' services, advocacy and outreach.
