This rule establishes entry-level competencies that are based on what beginning performing and visual arts education teachers must know and be able to do to provide effective arts programs in New Mexico schools. The competencies were developed to ensure alignment with the New Mexico's content standards and benchmarks and with the national standards for the arts. These standards must be used by New Mexico institutions of higher education to establish performing and visual arts education preparatory programs.
