DGFs shall be capable of being isolated from the EU. For Level 2 and Level 3 interconnection, the isolation shall be by means of a lockable, visible-break isolation device whose status is clearly indicated and is accessible by the EU. The isolation device shall be installed, owned and maintained by the owner of the DGF and located between the DGF and the PCC. A draw-out type circuit breaker with a provision for padlocking at the draw-out position can be considered an isolation device for purposes of this requirement. A draw-out type circuit breaker has a switching device capable of making, carrying and breaking currents under normal and abnormal circuit conditions such as those of a short circuit. A draw-out circuit breaker can be physically removed from its enclosure creating a visible break in the circuit. For the purposes of these regulations, the draw-out circuit breaker shall be capable of being locked in the open, draw-out position. Level 1 interconnections do not require an external isolation device.
