Part 1305.1015 - SECTION 1015, GUARDS

IBC section 1015.1 is amended to read as follows:

1015.1 Exit or exit access doorways required from spaces.

Two exits or exit access doorways from any space shall be provided where one of the following conditions exists:

1. The occupant load of the space exceeds the values in Table 1015.1.

Exceptions:

(a) In Groups R-2 and R-3 occupancies, one means of egress is permitted within and from individual dwelling units with a maximum occupant load of 20 where the dwelling unit is equipped throughout with an automatic sprinkler system in accordance with section 903.3.1.1 or 903.3.1.2.
(b) Care suites in Group 1-2 occupancies complying with section 407.4.3.
2. The common path of egress travel exceeds the limitations of section 1014.3.
3. Where required by sections 1015.3, 1015.4, -and-1015.5, and 1015.6.
4. When located in buildings used for educational purposes, laboratories and prep rooms that exceed 500 square feet in area and contain hazardous materials.

Where a building contains mixed occupancies, each individual occupancy shall comply with the applicable requirements for that occupancy. Where applicable, cumulative occupant loads from adjacent occupancies shall be considered in accordance with the provisions of section 1004.1.

Subpart 1.IBC section 1015.2, Where required.

IBC section 1015.2 is amended by adding item 8 to the exception as follows:

8. On bleachers 55 inches or less in height, in accordance with the Minnesota Bleacher Safety Act, Minnesota Statutes, section 326B.112.
Subp. 2.IBC section 1015.3, Height.

IBC section 1015.3 is amended by modifying exception 4 to read as follows:

4. The guard height in assembly seating areas shall be in accordance with Section 1029.17 and the Minnesota Bleacher Safety Act, Minnesota Statutes, section 326B.112.
Subp. 2a.IBC section 1015.6, Mechanical equipment, systems, and devices.

IBC section 1015.6 is amended to read as follows:

1015.6Mechanical equipment, systems and devices. Guards shall be designed and installed in accordance with the Minnesota Mechanical Code, Minnesota Rules, chapter 1346.
Subp. 3.IBC section 1015.8.

IBC section 1015.8 is amended to read as follows:

1015.8Window openings. In occupancy groups R-1, R-2, and R-3 where the lowest part of the opening of an operable window is located more than 72 inches (1829 mm) above the finished grade or other surface below, the lowest part of the window opening shall be at a height not less than 36 inches (914 mm) above the finished floor surface of the room in which the window is located. Operable sections of windows shall not permit openings that allow passage of a 4-inch-diameter (102 mm) sphere where such openings are located within 36 inches (914 mm) of the finished floor.

Exceptions:

1. Operable windows where the lowest part of the opening is located more than 75 feet (22, 860 mm) above the finished grade or other surface below and that are provided with window fall-prevention devices that comply with ASTM F 2006.
2. Windows whose openings will not allow a 4-inch-diameter (102 mm) sphere to pass through the opening when the window is in its largest opened position.
3. Openings that are provided with window fall-prevention devices that comply with ASTM F 2090.
4. Windows that are provided with window opening control devices that comply with Section 1015.8.1.
