(1) "Preformed" means to permanently shape wires and strands before fabrication into wire rope.(2) "Pulpit" means an operator compartment located at a fixed position remote from the crane or monorail equipment.(3) "Safety factor" means the ratio of the breaking strength of a material to the maximum designed stress.(4) "Seizing" means to bind the end of a wire rope with a soft annealed iron wire.(5) "Side pull" means to pull a load with a hoist, chain, or cable other than vertically.(6) "Single-leg gantry crane" means a crane similar to an underhung crane, except that the bridge for carrying the trolley is rigidly supported on one end by a vertical leg mounted on an end truck.(7) "Swaged socket" means a fitting into which wire rope is inserted and attached by cold forming.(8) "Underhung crane" means a crane with a traveling bridge which is suspended under its runway track system.
