Section R. 408.41966 - Jacks generallyRule 1966.
(1) The rated capacity shall be legibly marked on a jack, and the capacity shall not be exceeded. A jack shall have a positive stop to prevent overtravel.(2) A hydraulic jack used for lift slab construction shall have a device that causes the jack to support the load in any position if the jack malfunctions.(3) A lift slab jack system that is automatically controlled shall have a device which stops the operation when a 1/2 inch leveling tolerance is exceeded.(4) A jack shall be provided a firm foundation. A wood block shall be placed between the load and the metal cap of a jack to prevent slippage.(5) After a load has been raised, it shall be immediately cribbed, blocked, or otherwise secured.(6) Hydraulic jacks exposed to freezing temperatures shall be supplied with an adequate antifreeze liquid.(7) All jacks shall be properly lubricated at regular intervals.(8) Each jack shall be thoroughly inspected. The frequency of inspections shall be as follows: (a) For constant or intermittent use at 1 locality, once every 6 months.(b) For jacks sent out of the shop for special work, when sent out and when returned.(c) For a jack subjected to abnormal load or shock, immediately before and immediately after being subjected to the load or shock.(9) Repair or replacement parts shall be examined for possible defects.(10) Jacks that are out of order shall be tagged accordingly and shall not be used until repairs are made.Mich.
