Section V-121 - Disposal of Illegal Live Deer and ElkA. Definitions Elk or Red Deer-any animal of the species Cervus elaphus.
Mule Deer or Black-Tailed Deer-any animal of the species Odocoileus hemionus.
White-Tailed Deer-any animal of the species Odocoileus virginianus.
B. White-tailed deer, mule deer, black-tailed deer, elk, or red deer imported into Louisiana in violation of Wildlife and Fisheries Commission (LWFC) rules or state statutes shall be euthanized by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), or its designee, in a manner conforming to the 2000 Report of the AVMA Panel on Euthanasia. At the discretion of the LDWF, white-tailed deer originating from within Louisiana and possessed in violation of LWFC rules or state statutes, may be euthanized in a manner conforming to the 2000 Report of the AVMA Panel on Euthanasia, or placed with a licensed game breeder in accordance with LDWF guidelines. Certainty of origin, confinement history, and age will be among the factors considered by LDWF in making a determination regarding disposition of white-tailed deer originating from within Louisiana. White-tailed deer placed with licensed game breeders shall remain in confinement for their entire lives and shall not be released into the wild.La. Admin. Code tit. 76, § V-121
