Section 701.200 - Visitinga) Visit Regulations The jail administrator shall prescribe regulations relative to visits with detainees.
1) Regulations shall provide a schedule identifying no fewer than two visiting days each week, one of which must be during the weekend.2) At least one visit per week per detainee shall be allowed, except when an individual detainee has been assessed a disciplinary penalty for a violation of a rule or regulation.3) Visits shall not be less than 15 minutes. Extended visits may be granted by the jail administrator for visitors who travel great distances.4) Two or more persons permitted to visit at the same time shall count as a single visit.5) There shall be no age restriction on visitors when a child is accompanied by a parent or guardian.b) Visits by Attorneys, Probation Officers, Pretrial Service Officers and Clergy 1) Attorneys, probation officers, pretrial service officers and clergy from recognized religious groups shall be permitted to visit detainees at reasonable hours other than during regularly scheduled visiting hours or periods. These visits shall not count as an allotted visit.2) An area for interview between a detainee and his or her attorney, probation officer or pretrial service officer shall be provided and arranged so as to ensure privacy.c) Security Precautions 1) All visitors shall be required to sign the visitor register or visitor card and provide identification before being permitted to visit a detainee. Jail staff may interview or request background information from potential visitors to determine whether they pose a threat to safety or security of the jail.2) Detainees must be thoroughly searched before and after each visit, unless the visit is conducted via such means as video conferencing.3) Visitors and items brought onto jail property are subject to search and a search notice sign must be conspicuously posted.4) In jails where visiting is conducted in an open room or area, constant visual supervision by jail staff must be exercised.Ill.
