Section 16.03.14.391 - RESPIRATORY CARE SERVICESThese services shall be under the supervision of a physician, organized and integrated with other services of the hospital.
01.Policies and Procedures. Respiratory care policies and procedures shall include the following: a. Responsibility of the service to the medical staff; andb. Clear protocol as to who can perform specific procedures; andc. A written procedure for each type of therapeutic or diagnostic procedure; andd. A written procedure for the care of all equipment; ande. Written procedures for the cleaning, disinfection, or sterilizing of all equipment that is not disposable; andf. Written procedures for infection control; andg. A procedure for the control of all water used for respiratory therapy where applicable.02.Records. All treatments involving respiratory care shall be recorded in the patient record by the person rendering the service, and shall include the following: b. Date and time of treatments; andc. Practitioners order recapitulation; andd. Any adverse reactions to treatments; ande. Records of periodic physician evaluations.03.Staff. All treatments shall be given by a respiratory therapist, a respiratory therapy technician or a licensed nurse. If a hospital is unable to employ sufficient respiratory therapists, respiratory therapy technicians or licensed nurse personnel to meet its needs, that hospital may use other hospital personnel who have documented on-the-job training in respiratory therapy and who are certified as being able to perform safely the duties assigned within the respiratory care service by the person with overall direction of the respiratory care service under Section 391.
