The District of Columbia School Reform Act of 1995, as amended, establishes the chartering authority of the District of Columbia Board of Education.
The powers and duties of the chartering authority are set forth in section 2211 of the District of Columbia School Reform Act.
The Board of Education shall monitor the operations of each public school to which it has granted a charter.
The Board of Education shall ensure that each public charter school complies with applicable laws and the provisions of the charter granted to the school.
The Board of Education shall monitor the progress of each public charter school in meeting student academic achievement expectations specified in the charter granted to the school.
The Board of Education may require a public charter school to which it has granted a charter to produce any book, record, paper, or document, if the Board determines that such production is necessary for the Board to carry out its functions pursuant to the D.C. School Reform Act.
