Section 29-232-29 - Major repairs and alterations to boilers and appurtenances thereof; fusion welding(a) Where a major repair to a boiler, including but not limited to riveted-patches and repairs by fusion welding, is necessary, an inspector shall be called for consultation and advice as to the best method of making such repair before such repair is started. After the repair is completed, it shall be subject to inspection and approval by the inspector. Approval shall be conditioned upon adherence to generally accepted engineering practices and methods designed to assure restoration of the boiler to a condition which will permit safe operation at the approved pressure. (An example of generally approved engineering practices and methods is contained in Chapter III of the National Board Inspection Code.)
(b) Where a repair or alteration to a boiler is made by means of fusion welding, the repair or alteration shall be accomplished by an organization in possession of a valid certificate of authorization for the use of the "R" (repair) stamp issued by the National Board or in possession of a valid A.S.M.E. certificate of authorization to repair or alter boilers, provided such repairs or alterations are within the scope of the organization's quality control system.
