Section 4.57 - Horseshoers(1) An applicant for a license as horseshoer shall:(a) be 18 years of age or older;(b) be qualified, as determined by the Stewards and horseshoer consultant, by reason of experience, background and knowledge of horseshoing. A horseshoer's license from another jurisdiction, having been issued within a prior period as determined by the Commission, may be accepted as evidence of experience and qualifications.(c) Evidence of qualifications may require passing one or more of the following: 1. a written examination;2. an interview or oral examination; and3. a demonstration of practical skills in horseshoing.(d) Applicants not previously licensed as a horseshoer shall be required to pass a written/oral examination, demonstrate practical skills and submit at least two written statements as to the character and qualifications of the applicant.(2) No person shall be eligible for an owner or trainer license if, during the term of such license, that person would practice as a farrier with horses racing under the jurisdiction of the Commission; provided, however, that a duly licensed owner may personally shoe a horse owned by him or her upon applying for and receiving a certificate of fitness therefore from the Commission.Amended by Mass Register Issue 1356, eff. 6/9/2017.
