Section 122.240 - Non-industrial Microwave Ovens(A) The power density of the radiofrequency electromagnetic field generated by a microwave oven manufactured after October 5, 1971 shall not exceed five milliwatts per square centimeter at any point five centimeters or more from the external surface of the oven.(B) The power density of the radiofrequency electromagnetic fields generated by a microwave oven manufactured prior to October 6, 1971 shall not exceed ten milliwatts per square centimeter at any point five or more centimeters from the external surface of the oven.(C) Measurements shall be made using test procedures established by the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services for ovens manufactured on or after October 6, 1971. Nationally recognized test procedures should be used for ovens manufactured prior to October 6, 1971.(D) Any microwave oven which fails to meet the applicable requirements of 105 CMR 122.040(A) or (B) shall be removed from service and shall not be operated until repairs or modifications have been made so that the oven will operate in conformance with the applicable requirements of 105 CMR 122.040(A) or (B).
