BLANKET ORDER EXTENDING TIME TO FILE BRIEFS
ORDER
This court and the other appellate courts in the State of Texas are experiencing an unprecedented computer network outage caused by a ransomware attack that occurred on May 8th. This computer network outage has caused the court to experience a temporary lack of access to the Texas Appellate Management and E-Filing System which is the computer system that Texas appellate courts rely upon for processing cases. Additionally, the attorneys that practice in our court, along with all Texans, have faced numerous challenges during the past three months caused by the Covid 19 Pandemic.
Having considered these challenges, the court finds that the effective and efficient administration of justice will be served by extending the time for parties to file briefs in certain cases pending in this court. Accordingly, with the exceptions noted below, the court grants all pending motions to extend time to file a brief until June 30, 2020, and extends the time for filing briefs in pending appeals until June 30, 2020, without the necessity of parties filing motions to extend time to file a brief in these cases. This order shall not apply to (1) original proceedings, (2) appeals in parental termination and child protection cases, and (3) appeals from the transfer of a juvenile offender to criminal district court for prosecution.
PER CURIAM May 20, 2020 Panel consists of: Bailey, C.J.,
Stretcher, J., and Wright, S.C.J. Willson, J., not participating.
