Section 16333 - Registration of midwives; register of births

It shall be the duty of all persons who may pursue or practice midwifery in the city of Philadelphia, in the incorporated part of the Northern Liberties, in the township of Penn and the districts of Southwark and Moyamensing, between the first day of March and the first day of April annually hereafter, to leave their names in writing and the places of their residence, at the office of the board of health; and when so left, it shall be the duty of the clerk to receive and enter the same, alphabetically, in a book to be kept for that purpose, which shall be open at all times during office hours, to persons desirous to inspect the same. And all persons pursuing or practising midwifery as aforesaid, shall keep a true and exact register of the births that take place under their care and superintendence; and shall from time to time as they may happen, enter the same with the sex of the child so born, on a blank schedule, to be furnished to them by the clerk of the health office; which schedule shall be signed with the name of such person and delivered on the last Saturday of each month, to clerk of the health office, or other person calling for the same; and every person pursuing or practising midwifery, neglecting or refusing to leave their names and places of residence at the health office as aforesaid, or to perform any other of the duties required by this act, shall forfeit and pay for each offence the sum of twenty-five dollars, to be recovered in the manner and for the uses prescribed in "An act for establishing a health office, and to secure the city and port of Philadelphia from the introduction of pestilential and contagious diseases, and for other purposes."
