-The board of commissioners is hereby authorized to make appropriations out of county funds to any nonprofit corporation organized for the purpose of restoring and preserving historic sites which are within the county. For the purposes of this section, an eligible historic site shall be listed or eligible to be listed in the National Register of Historic Places or designated as historic by resolution of the commissioners.
