Section 257.1820 - Stop-arm camera system
(1) A school bus may be equipped with a stop-arm camera system in accordance with this section.
(2) A school may do either of the following:
(a) Install and operate a stop-arm camera system on a school bus.
(b) Enter into a contract with a private vendor to install and operate a stop-arm camera system on a school bus.
(3) As used in this section, "stop-arm camera system" means a system of 2 or more cameras affixed to a school bus that meets all of the following requirements:
(a) Is synchronized to automatically record video or 1 or more sequenced photographs of a vehicle failing to stop for a school bus or passing a school bus in violation of section 682(1) of the Michigan vehicle code, 1949 PA 300, MCL 257.682.
(b) Is capable of capturing images of all of the following:
(i) The vehicle.
(ii) The registration plate on the rear of the vehicle.
(iii) A distance of not less than 200 feet in front of the school bus.
(c) Records the date, time, and location on an image produced by the system.
