The Chief Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court shall appoint a clerk of the law court to serve at the Chief Justice's pleasure and shall, from time to time, designate one or more of the clerks of court or some competent person or persons to act as additional clerks of the law court. The clerk of the law court is entitled to receive such salary as the Chief Justice determines and shall devote full time to the clerk's duties. The clerk of the law court shall also act as reporter of decisions. The Chief Justice or in the Chief Justice's absence the senior justice present shall allow to the county in which any law term is held such expense as may be incurred on account of such law term, which must be paid by the State.
