When the investigation of the criminal activity for which the documents were produced is finished, or when any case or action that arises from said investigation is concluded, the investigator shall return the documents to the person that produced them, except for those copies made by the Secretary of Justice, and those that have not come under the control of the court.
If an action or proceeding is not initiated as a result of the investigation within a reasonable period of time after the examination and analysis of all evidence in course of investigation has been completed, the person who produced the evidence shall have the right, through a written request to the Secretary of Justice, to the return of all the documentary evidence or objects that this person produced.
In case of the death, disability or separation from office of a person who has in his care any documentary evidence produced under the provisions of this chapter, or in case the official is relieved of the responsibility of keeping said material in his custody, the Secretary of Justice shall immediately:
(1) Designate another investigator from the Special Investigations Bureau to serve as custodian, and
(2) notify the person who produced the evidence, in writing, of the name and address of the designated successor. Any successor, so designated, shall have the same functions, duties and responsibilities imposed on his predecessor by this chapter, except that he shall not be held responsible for any negligent act that may have occurred before his designation as custodian.
