Upon the final settlement of the amount of taxes directed to be collected by any collector, in any township, the county collector shall, if requested, give to the township collector, or any of his or her sureties, a satisfaction piece in writing. The satisfaction piece may be recorded in the recorder's office, and when so recorded shall operate as a discharge of the sureties and of the lien upon the property of the collector, except as to all suits commenced upon the bond within 3 years after the recording of the satisfaction piece.
