Rule Administrative Order No. 12 - Terms of the Superior Court

Pursuant to the Vermont Constitution, Chapter II, §§ 30, 31 and 37, to provide for the effective and efficient administration of justice in the superior court, the terms of superior court shall be as follows:

The unified court as constituted by 4 V.S.A. § 30(a) shall be divided into 14 geographical units which shall follow county lines, except that the environmental court shall be a court of statewide jurisdiction and shall not otherwise be divided into geographical units.

The terms of the Superior Court shall begin on the first Monday in March and the first Tuesday after Labor Day in September in every county at the following locations:

Addison County.

Bennington County.

Caledonia County.

Chittenden County.

Essex County.

Franklin County.

Grand Isle County.

Lamoille County.

Orange County.

Orleans County.

Rutland County.

Washington County.

Windham County.

No stated term shall be formally closed at any time, and each shall be considered to be open until the next regular stated term is convened in the county. The superior judge assigned as presiding judge of the stated term shall continue to serve in that capacity until the opening of the next stated term, unless other designation is made.
