Section 36-08 - Licensing Provisions for Marriage and Family TherapistsAn applicant for licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist must:
(1) submit an application on forms approved by the Board, along with the required fee; and(2) hold a current, active, and unrestricted Marriage and Family Therapy Associate license unless applying under the provisions of Section 36-11; and(3) submit, on forms approved by the Board documentation of completion of a minimum of one thousand five hundred (1500) hours of post-master's clinical experience and post-master's clinical supervision in marriage and family therapy performed over a period of no fewer than two (2) years. Of the one thousand five hundred (1500) hours, there must be a minimum of one thousand three hundred eighty (1,380) documented direct client contact hours and a minimum of one hundred twenty (120) documented hours of supervision by a licensed marriage and family therapy supervisor or other qualified licensed mental health practitioner approved by the Board prior to beginning supervision, that includes experience assessing and treating clients with the more serious problems as categorized in standard diagnostic nomenclature. At least sixty (60) of the supervision hours must be individual/triadic, and the remaining sixty (60) hours can be individual/triadic or group.Added by State Register Volume 25, Issue No. 5, Part 2, eff May 25, 2001.
