Section 78a.78 - Pillar permit applications(a) The Department will use recommendations for coal pillar size and configuration set forth in the coal pillar study, listed in the Department's Coal Pillars , Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Environmental Protection, No. 550-2100-006, as amended and updated, as a basis for approval or disapproval of coal pillar permit applications submitted by underground coal mine operators.(b) Where proposed coal pillar size and configuration does not conform to the recommendations of the coal pillar study referenced in subsection (a), the underground coal mine operator may request Department approval for an alternate coal pillar size and configuration.
