Section 635-039-0085 - [Effective until 12/27/2024] Halibut Seasons

(1) The Pacific halibut sport fishery in Oregon is regulated by the federal government and the International Pacific Halibut Commission (IPHC). OAR Chapter 635, Division 039 incorporates into Oregon Administrative Rules, by reference:

(a) Title 50 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 300, Subpart E (October 1, 2023 ed.), as amended;

(b) Federal Register Vol. 89, No. 53, dated Monday, March 18, 2024;

(c) Federal Register Vol. 89, No. 65, dated Wednesday, April 3, 2024;

(d) Federal Register Vol. 89, No. 105, dated Thursday, May 30, 2024;

(e) Federal Register Vol. 89, No. 123, dated Wednesday, June 26, 2024; and

(f) Federal Register Vol. 89, No. 141, dated Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

(2) Therefore, persons must consult all publications referenced in this rule in addition to Division 039 to determine applicable halibut fishing seasons.

(3) Effective August 1 through October 31 or until there is not sufficient allocation for another full day of fishing at which point the fishery will close, the Central Oregon Coast Subarea (Cape Falcon to Humbug Mountain) all-depth fishery is open to the retention of Pacific halibut 7-days per week. The daily bag limit is two Pacific halibut.

(4) Effective August 22 through September 30 or until there is not sufficient allocation for another full day of fishing at which point the fishery will close, for the Columbia River Subarea (Leadbetter Point, Washington south to Cape Falcon, Oregon) all-depth fishery the following regulations apply:

(a) The fishery is open:

(A) From August 22 through September 3;

(B) September 5;

(C) September 8;

(D) September 10;

(E) September 12;

(F) September 15;

(G) September 17;

(H) September 19;

(I) September 22;

(J) September 24;

(K) September 26; and

(L) September 29.

(b) The daily bag limit is one Pacific halibut.

(5) All other General Statewide and Zone Regulations, as provided in the current annual Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations, remain in effect.
