EXECUTIVE ORDER 2024-5
I, J. Kevin Stitt, Governor of the State of Oklahoma, hereby direct the appropriate steps be taken to fly all American and Oklahoma Flags on State property at half-staff from the time that this order is filed until sunset on Wednesday, March 20th, 2024, as a show of respect and mourning for the loss of two great Oklahomans, Lieutenant General Thomas Stafford and Adjutant General, Major General Donald F. Ferrell.
Lt. General Thomas Stafford, from Weatherford, Oklahoma, commanded the Apollo 10 mission to the moon and took part in three other space missions. A three-star general, Stafford was selected to be NASA's Chief of the Astronaut Office before serving as the Director of Flight Crew Operations at Johnson Space Center.
Major General Donald F. Ferrell, from Chandler, Oklahoma, was the first Air Adjutant General for the State of Oklahoma. After enlisting in the military in 1942, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1952 through the Air Force Reserve officers training program at Oklahoma State University. He later served in the Oklahoma Senate between 1966 and 1974 before then-Governor Henry Bellmon tapped Ferrell to become the Secretary of Safety and Security.
This executive order shall be forwarded to the Division of Capital Assets Management who shall cause the provisions of this order to be implemented by all appropriate agencies of state government.
