Section 901:1-5-13 - Designating a kennel brucella canis free status(A) A licensed kennel under Chapter 956. of the Revised Code, shall be designated a brucella canis free kennel if the kennel has had two successive whole kennel negative tests and follows the requirements as listed in this rule.(1) A whole kennel test consists of testing all canines over six months of age. In order for a whole kennel test to be valid, it must meet the following requirements:(a) Be completed within a period of thirty days; and(b) Except for natural additions, there can be no addition of any adult canine or semen made during that period to the kennel.(2) Whole kennel tests will not be considered successive if there has be a canine added to a kennel that has had one complete negative kennel test unless either:(a) The canine prior to entering the licensed kennel has been designated brucella canis negative twice a minimum of sixty days apart; or(b) The canine originated from a brucella canis free kennel and has not been exposed to a brucella canis suspect or positive canine.(3) If all kennel test samples are negative, the kennel must be retested in no less than six nor more than twelve months to be considered successive.(4) If one or more canines are designated brucella canis positive or brucella canis suspect, the canines must be individually isolated and quarantined in accordance with rule 901:1-5-12 of the Administrative Code. The licensed kennel must be re-tested not less than two months nor more than six months after the removal of the positive or suspect canines.(B) A brucella canis free kennel shall maintain its status if: (1) The kennel completes an annual negative whole kennel test; and(2) All additions comply with paragraphs (D) and (E) of this rule.(C) If a brucella canis free kennel maintains its brucella canis free status for a period of two years or more, the kennel may maintain its status by: (1) All additions comply with paragraphs (D) and (E) of this rule; and(2) Each canine is tested at least one time in every two year period.(D) Canines may be brought into a brucella free kennel if:(1) The canine is included in the next whole kennel test; and either(2) The canine originates from a kennel of equal status; or(3) The canine has two brucella canis negative tests a minimum of sixty days apart prior to entry.(E) Semen may be brought into a brucella canis free kennel if:(1) The female is included in the next whole kennel test; and(2) The semen is from a male that either: (a) Originates from a kennel of equal status; or(b) Has two brucella canis negative tests a minimum of sixty days apart prior to entry.(F) If a brucella canis free kennel has a brucella canis positive or brucella canis suspect canine, the kennel's brucella canis free status will be suspended immediately pending testing and an epidemiological investigation conducted by the Ohio department of agriculture.Ohio Admin.
