Section 4758-5-08 - Requirements for certification of Ohio prevention specialist assistants (OCPSA)
(A) To be certified as a prevention specialist assistant (OCPSA), an applicant shall :
(1) Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent;

(2) Submit a formal application, including:
(a) Suitable documentation provided in a manner specified by the board;
(b) An application fee;
(c) A personal attestation statement agreeing to practice by the code of ethical standards adopted by the board; and
(3) A recommendation and suitable documentation as follows:
(a) Provided directly from the applicants supervisor.
(b) Provided in a manner specified by the board.

(B) Complete one hundred hours of prevention work experience while holding one of the following valid certifications or licenses:
(1) Registered applicant (RA);
(2) An independent social worker or social worker licensed under Chapter 4757. of the Revised Code;
(3) A health education specialist certified by the national commission for health education credentialing for health education credentialing.
(C) Complete the hours of approved education in paragraph (D) of this rule, as follows:

In addition to paragraph (B) of this rule, forty-five hours of education.

(1) Must be prevention related specific education;
(2) Fifty per cent of the total hours shall be completed within two years from the date of application; and
(3) Completion may be through:
(a) Board approved continuing education units (CEU)
(b) Courses completed from an accredited school or university, or
(c) A combination of paragraphs (C)(3)(a) and (C)(3)(b) of this rule.
(D) The education content and required minimum hours as follows:
(1) Planning and evaluation (three hours);
(2) Prevention education and service delivery (three hours);
(3) Communication (three hours);
(4) Community organization (three hours);
(5) Public policy and environmental change (three hours);
(6) Professional growth and responsibility (fifteen hours) to include:
(a) Prevention specific ethics education: (three hours) with a maximum of four hours.
(b) Cultural humility (three hours) with a maximum of six hours.
(E) The board shall have sole discretion to determine if documentation submitted is suitable.
