Section R. 408.15361 - RopesRule 5361.
(1) A rope shall be inspected before each day's use for the following conditions: (a) Externally for abrasions, cut or broken fibers, decay, burns, lack of strength, softness, variation in size or roundness of the strands.(b) Internally, by separating the strands at 3 foot (.914 M) intervals, for broken fibers, presence of grit, mildew or mold, color change of the fibers, or powdering, and short loose fibers.(c) Wear or damage of a work rope where the tautline hitch is used. That section showing wear or damage shall be cut off.(2) A rope showing any of the defects listed in subrule (1), which would constitute a hazard, shall be replaced.(3) A rope shall be stored in a dry location in coils or on a reel.(4) A wet rope shall be dried by placing it in the sunshine or a warm room by hanging loosely over a rounded peg or hook.(5) A rope shall not be: (a) Kinked or run over sharp corners.(b) Used when frozen or left in freezing temperatures when wet.(6) A climbing rope shall not be spliced.(7) A climbing rope shall not be left aloft overnight.Mich.
