Section 502-3-A-1 - Eligibility for Certification

An acupuncturist licensed pursuant to Chapter 3 of the board's rules may be certified for the formulation and dispensing of custom-made Chinese herbal formulations if the acupuncturist meets one or more of the following criteria:

A.NCCAOM Certification

The acupuncturist is certified by NCCAOM in Oriental medicine or Chinese Herbology.

B.Master's Degree or Equivalent

The acupuncturist has completed a Master's-degree or Master's-level professional program in Oriental medicine that at time of completion was:

1. Accredited by ACAOM or in candidacy for accreditation by ACAOM; or
2. Offered by an institution that was accredited by ACAOM or in candidacy for accreditation by ACAOM.
C.Herb Certificate Training Program

The acupuncturist has completed an herb certificate training program that consisted of a minimum of 450 hours of combined didactic instruction in herbs and herbal clinical training that at time of completion was:

1. Accredited by ACAOM or in candidacy for accreditation by ACAOM; or
2. Offered by an institution that was accredited by ACAOM or in candidacy for accreditation by ACAOM.
D.Experience

The acupuncturist has at least eight years of experience prior to July 1, 2004 practicing custom-made Chinese herbal formulation as evidenced by statements from two licensees, two colleagues with acupuncture licensing or certification in another state, or three patients.
