Rule 761-400.35 - Registration of vehicles equipped for persons with disabilities

The registration fee shall be reduced for an automobile, multipurpose vehicle, or motor truck with an unladen weight of 10,000 pounds or less with permanent equipment for assisting a person with a disability or for an automobile, multipurpose vehicle, or motor truck with an unladen weight of 10,000 pounds or less used by a person who uses a wheelchair as the person's only means of mobility. To qualify for the reduction, the owner of the vehicle must provide a written self-certification at the first registration and at each renewal:

(1) That the automobile, multipurpose vehicle, or motor truck with an unladen weight of 10,000 pounds or less has permanently installed equipment manufactured for and necessary to assist a person with a disability, as defined in Iowa Code section 321L. 1, to enter or exit the vehicle, or

(2) That the owner or a member of the owner's household uses a wheelchair as the person's only means of mobility.

This rule is intended to implement Iowa Code sections 321.109, 321.124 and 321L.1.
