Summary
In Griffin, we observed that notice of appeal generally divests the district court of jurisdiction over the subject matter of the appeal, and held that a district court had lacked jurisdiction to consider a "cryptic motion for relief" filed by a prisoner during the pendency of his direct appeal from the dismissal of an earlier habeas petition.
